Transforming Smartphones into Medical-Grade Vital Sign Monitors - PanopticAI’s Vital Signs App Became World’s First FDA-Cleared App for Contactless Pulse Rate Measurement

CBE alumnus, Dr. Kyle WONG (2023 PhD in Bioengineering), is a co-founder of PanopticAI, a health tech start-up that has recently received 510(k) clearance from the U.S. FDA for its contactless vital signs monitoring software. This app is the first FDA-cleared mobile application to measure pulse rate using the built-in camera of iPhones and iPads, making PanopticAI the first Hong Kong-based company to achieve FDA clearance for a Software as a Medical Device.

Alongside Dr. WONG, the co-founders include Dr. Nick CHIN and Mr. Teric CHAN, with guidance from Prof. Richard SO. Their technology uses advanced algorithms to turn smartphones and tablets into medical-grade monitors, accurately measuring vital signs in just 30 seconds with a 98% accuracy rate.

This FDA approval is a major step for PanopticAI in making healthcare more accessible and cost-effective, allowing hospitals, insurance providers, and pharmacies to utilize their technology widely.
