CBE Members Shine in Latest RAISe+ Funding Round

We are proud to announce the outstanding success of our department members in the third round of the Research, Academic and Industry Sectors One-Plus (RAISe+) Scheme. Prof. Hao CHEN, Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering, and the Division of Life Science, and Dr. Kyle WONG, a 2023 PhD graduate in Bioengineering, have both had their innovative projects recommended for significant funding.

Prof. Chen's project, "A Full-stack Large AI Model-driven Computational Pathology Platform for Precision Oncology," and Dr. Wong's project, "Clinical-Grade Contactless Blood Pressure Monitoring on Smartphones: Accelerating Triage and Early Detection," were among the seven HKUST projects selected in this round.

This achievement is part of a larger success for The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), which secured nearly one-third of all approved projects. With a total of 19 funded projects over the three rounds, HKUST leads all local universities, reinforcing its role in translating cutting-edge research into impactful, real-world applications.

Prof. Tim CHENG, Vice-President for Research and Development of HKUST, congratulated the research teams, stating, “This not only affirms HKUST’s strong capabilities in innovation and in translating research outcomes into real-world impact, but also reflects our significant contribution to building a vibrant innovation and technology ecosystem in Hong Kong. Looking ahead, the University will continue to work closely with the government and industry partners to support research teams in transforming their innovations into practical applications, delivering tangible value and contributing to Hong Kong’s development as an international innovation and technology center.”

The success of Prof. Chen and Dr. Wong highlights our department's commitment to pioneering research that addresses critical needs in healthcare and technology.

Congratulations to Prof. Chen and Dr. Wong on this remarkable achievement.
