Prof. Minhua SHAO and Prof. Guohua CHEN to Lead New Hong Kong Center for Renewable Energy and Storage

Our department is proud to announce that our distinguished Head and Chair Professor, Prof. Minhua SHAO, has been appointed to lead the new Hong Kong Center for Renewable Energy and Storage (HKCRES). Prof. Guohua CHEN, Chair Professor of our department, is the Co-Head of the center.  Together, they will drive pioneering research and innovation in renewable energy and storage technologies, reinforcing Hong Kong’s leadership in sustainable development.

This prestigious appointment is part of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST)'s latest initiative, which recently received approval from the HKSAR Government's Innovation and Technology Commission (ITC) to establish two new research centers under the SEAM@InnoHK cluster.

Under the expert leadership of Prof. Shao and Prof. Chen, HKCRES will focus on critical areas of sustainable technology, including:

  • High-performance perovskite photovoltaics
  • Green hydrogen production and storage
  • Next-generation battery systems
  • Energy system integration

The establishment of this center marks a significant achievement, highlighting our department's leading role in driving innovation in green energy. It will enhance our collaboration with top global universities and industry partners, accelerating the translation of research into real-world solutions.
