CBE Summer Study Tour to EcoCeres Zhangjiagang Concludes Successfully

From May 31 to June 7, 2026, a delegation of 22 teachers and students from CBE, led by Prof. Marshal LIU, completed a one-week summer study tour at the EcoCeres plant in Zhangjiagang. The program provided valuable first-hand exposure to environmental technologies, sustainable manufacturing, and real-world industrial operations.

Participants toured key process units, including hydrogen production, feed treatment, hydrogenation and isomerization for sustainable aviation fuel, distillation, and waste treatment facilities. Through close observation of production processes, equipment, utilities, and quality management systems, students gained a comprehensive understanding of modern chemical manufacturing. Technical staff complemented site visits with practical explanations, linking industrial practice with core engineering principles.

A highlight of the program was a team-based design competition focused on a stripping tower for carbon dioxide removal from water. Students demonstrated strong analytical and problem-solving skills through design, simulation, optimization, and troubleshooting, achieving impressive outcomes.

The one-week study tour in the plant enabled students to move beyond textbooks and engage directly with industrial realities. It fostered a deeper appreciation of the principles of safe production, operational efficiency, and sustainable development in the modern chemical industry.
