Annual Three-Day Plant Trip in the Greater Bay Area (8–10 Jan 2026)
The Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering (CBE) successfully completed its annual 3 Day Plant Trip to the Greater Bay Area (GBA), bringing 40 students to visit a diverse range of industrial facilities across Jiangmen, Guangdong province. The trip offered an immersive learning experience across the food, materials, biotechnology, energy and environmental sectors — an eye opening journey that connected classroom knowledge with real world practice.
Highlights of the Industrial Visits
Tung Won Yeung (东望洋) & Zhimeiwu Food Co., Ltd. (Maxim’s Group 知美屋)
Students explored the full spectrum of modern food manufacturing — from ingredient screening and product design to process development and large-scale operations. The behind-the-scenes view of food innovation left the group deeply impressed.
Jiangmen Industrial Technology Research Institute (江门产研院)
The institute showcased its patented “Micro Supermarket” technology platform and the complete pathway of technology translation, demonstrating how research innovations are transformed into impactful real-world solutions.
LiYing New Materials Co., Ltd. (立盈)
A tour through their advanced manufacturing site revealed the full workflow of coating-material R&D and synthesis. The visit highlighted the power of materials science in enabling next generation industrial applications.
Infinitus (China) Co., Ltd. (无限极)
Students gained firsthand exposure to product design, raw material extraction, aseptic filling technology, intelligent manufacturing lines, and a comprehensive quality-control system—an impressive showcase of Industry 4.0 in action.
Public Utilities Energy Co., Ltd. (公用能源有限公司)
The company processes nearly 200 tons of food waste daily, converting it into valuable products such as biogas, oils, animal proteins, and organic fertilizers. This demonstrated the tangible potential of circular economy solutions.
Pengjiang District Waste-to-Energy Treatment Center (蓬江)
Handling 1,500 tons of municipal solid waste per day, the facility showcased high efficiency waste to energy operations—turning refuse into clean energy while meeting strict environmental standards.
This year’s trip offered invaluable opportunities for CBE students to gain industry exposure, understand emerging technologies, and engage with professionals shaping the future of chemical and biological engineering. The department extends its gratitude to all partner companies and research institutes for their warm hospitality and strong support.
