HKIE Environmental Division Prize for 2019-20 Best Final-Year Environmental Project - Real-time Detection of Microplastics Using a Smart Fish Model

CBE students have won the Championship for the Best Final-Year Environmental Project for the third consecutive year. This excellent achievement recognized by HKIE’s Environmental Division comes with a collective effort by the following members;

• Students Awardees

  1. BEng program in Chemical and Environmental Engineering: Mr. CHEUNG King Pok, Mr. HO Man Yat, and Mr. WONG Pui Him
  2. BSc program in Ocean Science: Mr. CHOW Chun Sing,

• Student Supervisor: Prof. Frank Leung-Yuk LAM

• Collaborator: Prof. Cindy Ka-Sin LAM

Each year, HKIE grants three levels of awards and prizes by recognizing students’ efforts in completing quality final year projects. By winning this award, senior students will be encouraged to continuously improve in the environmental engineering practice for the rest of their future careers. This year’s champion project "Real-time Detection of Microplastics Using a Smart Fish Model" is a cutting-edge prototype for the online quantification of microplastics in the ocean. Its capability in collecting the microplastics from the sea surface and quantifying them enables measurements for future academic study, while demonstrating the significance of the synergy between the Science and Engineering departments.
