LAB SAFETY

Departmental Procedures

Experimental Work

When a new researcher joins a research group, the Faculty Laboratory Representative should formally review the " Form A: Safety Orientation Check List Form" with the researcher.

The form will cover:

  1. Emergency fire safety awareness
  2. Emergency chemical safety and spill awareness
  3. In case of accident, what one must do
  4. Waste management
  5. Personal safety Protection
  6. Prior the start of experiment, preparatory readings, mandatory safety courses and health checks
  7. Preparation of work plan

A researcher can only start experimental work once an approved work plan with a work permit is granted to the researcher.

Non-Experimental Work

Computational researchers who sit in the laboratories but do not plan to do experiments must also review the " Form A: Safety Orientation Check List Form" with the Faculty Laboratory Representative. They need not prepare a work plan, but they must attend the mandatory safety classes as they must be aware of the potential hazards in the laboratories. The researches must fill in " Form E: Declaration of Non Experimental Work in Laboratory"
